HISTORY AND ACHIEVEMENTS

CABE was founded as a Catholic managers association in 1938 and became ecumenical at the time of Vatican 2. CABE is a Christian organisation dedicated to bringing Christian values and moral principles to the world of work, particularly at executive level; it is a registered Charity. That still remains a valid and important task for all Christians who are called to work in business and commerce. The significance of business in our society has never been greater, and for Christians to serve there is our response to the challenge of the Incarnation.

CABE has always had a distinctive role, and as we address the future it is appropriate to look at the key features that CABE represents. It has tried to address in particular the demands placed upon Christians who hold positions of responsibility in business, where the most challenging situations can occur. CABE started off as a Roman Catholic initiative and its first Director, Hugh Kay, was a Roman Catholic, but its second, Stanley Kiaer, who is still a Trustee, is an Anglican, and we now welcome Christians from a range of denominations. Consequently CABE has a goodly heritage on which to draw.

Some of the milestones in its history include:
