Hugh
Kay was first Secretary and then Director of CABE
from 1971 until his death in 1986. His obituary in the Times included
a comment that ‘he inspired affection in many for his dogged
Christian realism and for his patient fellow-feeling in exposing
his own hard-won faith – qualities appreciated in his regular
domestic and foreign broadcasts, including Thought for the Day.’
In 1989 the Trustees of CABE decided to hold an
annual Lecture in his memory, the first of which was delivered in
1990.
Recent
lectures include:
Stephen Green, Group Chairman of HSBC delivered the 17th Annual Hugh Kay Lecture on 30 November 2006 "Sustainable Shareholder Values, why Values Matter". Click here to download or read the transcript: lecture notes
In 2005, for the first time, the Lecture was combined with
the Day Conference at St Paul’s Cathedral on 17 November.
Full details of the Conference can be viewed by accessing the Conference
